Early life and education

Tur is the daughter of journalists Hanna Zoey Tur and Marika Gerrard. She has one brother, James. She graduated from Brentwood School in 2001, and from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2005 with a BA, philosophy. In 2009, Tur received AP’s Best Spot News Award for her coverage of the March 2008 crane collapse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Tur is fluent in Spanish.
Career
Tur has reported for KTLA, HD News/Cablevision, News 12 Brooklyn, WPIX-TV, and Fox 5 New York. Later on, Tur worked as a storm chaser for The Weather Channel on the network's VORTEX2 team.
In September 2017, Tur published Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History, recounting her experience in covering the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump.
NBC News

In 2009, Tur joined NBC's local station in New York City, WNBC-TV, and then rose to the flagship NBC News at the national network level. While at NBC News, she covered the death of Cory Monteith, a motorcycle attack on an SUV, and the MH-370 search. She covered the Donald Trump presidential campaign for the network as its campaign-embedded reporter. Several times during the campaign, Trump singled her out in his criticism of the press. At an event in Florida, she was booed by Trump supporters and, according to other journalists, was subjected to verbal harassment. According to Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, "[he] didn't mean it in any malicious way", and he did not want anyone to attack or harass Tur. Tur reflected on covering the Trump campaign and on some comments directed at her ("She's back there. Little Katy. She's back there.") in an article for Marie Claire. As the NBC reporter, Tur was responsible for informing the Trump campaign about the Access Hollywood tape NBC possessed.
