Kathryn Tappen (born April 9, 1981) is an American sportscaster. Tappen works with NBC Sports Group’s coverage of the National Hockey League, including NHL Live and NHL Overtime. In addition, she also serves as a reporter of the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Career

After starting in College Sports Television, Tappen joined WJAR in Providence, R.I. From there she moved to New England Sports Network (NESN) then moved, in 2011, onto NHL where she hosted NHL Tonight. Tappen subsequently moved to NBC.
Personal life

Tappen was born in Morristown, New Jersey and attended Rutgers University.

Tappen married NHL defenseman Jay Leach in 2009. The couple divorced in 2015.

In 2014, Tappen won the “Woman of Inspiration” award presented by the Boston Chapter of Women in Sports and Events. She has been nominated for two New England Emmy Awards for sports reporting and won an Associated Press award in 2006 for her feature Swim Meet.

Tappen is an Ambassador for the MARSOC Foundation, an organization she became aware of following the death of her Marine Captain cousin Stanford H. Shaw, III, was killed in a helicopter crash in 2015.
