Early pageants

In August 2009, while a student at Madisonville North Hopkins High School in her home state of Kentucky, Kelley won the Hopkins County Junior Miss crown. She struggled to duplicate this success, placing second in her school's November 2009 talent show and failing to win any local Miss America-system pageant to qualify for the Miss Kentucky pageant. As an undergraduate at the University of Alabama, Kelley continued entering local pageants, vying for a chance at Miss Alabama, but again failed to qualify.

Miss Nevada 2015

Kelley enrolled at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Fall 2014 to being work on a master's degree. On February 7, 2015, Kelley was crowned Miss Summerlin 2015 which made her eligible to compete at the 2015 Miss Nevada pageant. The state pageant was held June 26–27, 2015, in Reynolds Hall at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Las Vegas. Entering as one of 14 qualifiers, Kelley's competition talent was a classical piano performance. Her platform is "Every Day Counts: Improving Public School Attendance".

Kelley won the competition on Saturday, June 27, 2015, when she received her crown from outgoing Miss Nevada titleholder Ellie Smith. She earned several thousand dollars in scholarship money from the state pageant. Kelley was also named winner of the Outstanding Academic Achievement award.

As Miss Nevada, her activities include public appearances across the state of Nevada. Kelley will be Nevada's representative at the Miss America 2016 pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in September 2015.
