Career
Kasthuri debuted in the Tamil film Aatha Un Koyiley in 1991, and appeared in a number of Tamil films thereafter, including the horror film Rasathi Varum Naal, Government Mappilai, Chinnavar and Senthamizh Paatu alongside Prabhu Ganesan in 1992.
Kasturi was the subject of a 30-minute documentary film Kasthuri: A South Indian Film star made by Richard Breyer and N C Rajamani in 1995.
Although Kasthuri initially retired from film after her Hindi short film The Bypass in 2003, she made a come back in 2010 with the film Thamizh Padam.
Personal life
Kasturi was born at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Her Father was an Engineer from IIT and mother was an advocate. She has a younger brother. She was an all rounder in school and had participated many competitions like singing, dance and quiz. She was a rank holder in SSLC and Plus two exams and the recipient of Gold medal. She was a state level hockey champion during school days. She was also an active member of National Cadet Corps (India) and became an RD cadet in air force wing. She also participated in the popular quiz show Master Mind India, hosted by Siddhartha Basu and made it to the finals in 2000. She has also done modelling before entering the film industry. She won Miss Madras title in 1992. She has even participated in Miss India contest during 1994.
She appears in the photo-book A Beautiful Body Project: The Bodies of Mothers.
