History

Karolyi Ranch USA Gymnastics Women39s selection camp underway at Karolyi Ranch

In 1983, following his defection to the U.S., Béla Károlyi purchased 40 acres of the Sam Houston National Forest, where the camp is located. A year later, gymnastics facilities and cabins were built and the ranch was open for summer camp. From 1986-89, the camp expanded enormously to 2,000 acres. In 2001, the ranch was designated as the U.S. Women's National Gymnastics Training Center.

In 2011, the Karolyi Ranch was recognized as a U.S. Olympic Training Site by the United States Olympic Committee.

Facilities

The ranch has a state of the art women's artistic gymnastics facility as well as a dance room, medical room, office, rhythmic gym, trampoline and tumble gym and a sports acro gym. It also has athletes and coaches cabins, dining halls, meeting rooms, TV room and a cafeteria.

National Team camps

National Team camps are held once a month, always at the Ranch. Gymnasts invited are National Team members as well as current elite gymnasts that the selectors deem to be good enough. Additionally, the ranch plays host to selection camps for Olympic, World Championships and Pan American Games teams.

USA Gymnastics Women's National Team

The USA Gymnastics Women's national team is the team that represents the United States in international competitions such as the Olympics and World Championships. Since its foundation in 1982, the team has won two Olympic golds and three silvers.

Post Károlyi days

Márta Károlyi retired from the role of National Team Coordinator in 2016 and, as a result, USA Gymnastics purchased the facilities to continue the program.
