Kao the Kangaroo is an action-adventure video game released in 2000 by Tate Interactive. During development it was known as Denis the Kangaroo.

Plot

Kao is a young kangaroo living with his family in the jungle when they are one day captured by a ruthless hunter and his goons. It's up to Kao to drive the invaders from his home and save his family.

Release

The game was marketed worldwide by Titus Interactive, both for PC's and for Sega Dreamcast console. It scored a major success, exceeding 45,000 copies in Poland alone where it remained in the Top 10 for a considerable time.

Reception

Kao the Kangaroo has received average to mixed reviews. GameRankings and Metacritic gave it a score of 62.89% and 63 out of 100 for the Dreamcast version, 67% and 60 out of 100 for the PC version, and 54.96% and 53 out of 100 for the Game Boy Advance version.

Sequels

In 2005 Tate Interactive released Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 for the Xbox, PS2, GameCube and PC. Later that year they released the PSP exclusive Kao Challengers, which introduced multiplayer to the series. Challengers was followed by Kao the Kangaroo: Mystery of the Volcano, which has not yet received an English language release.
