Kanniyin Kaadhali (தமிழ்: கன்னியின் காதலி, English: The Maiden's Lover) is a 1949 Tamil romantic comedy - Melodrama film was directed by K. Ramnoth and A. K. Sekhar and produced by K. Ramnoth under Jupiter Pictures. The film dialogue were written by S. D. Sundaram and Screenplays by K. Ramnoth respectively. Music by S. M. Subbaiah Naidu and C. R. Subburaman assets to the film and Lyrics were written by Kannadasan was debut his break in this film. It stars Madhuri Devi (played both Male and Female role) and Anjali Devi played lead with S. A. Natarajan, N. S. Krishnan, T. A. Mathuram and K. Sarangapani played pivotal role and dance by Lalitha - Padmini. The film was adaption of English Comedy classic play Twelfth Night as William Shakespeare.

The film centers on the twins Adithan and Chandrika, who are separated in a shipwreck. Chandrika (Who is disguised as a boy) falls in love with Prince Vasantha Kumaran, who in turns is in love with the Megala Devi. Upon meeting chandrika, Megala falls in love with her thinking she is a man.
Background
In 1947, two sadly underrated maestro of Indian Cinema K. Ramnoth and A. K. Sekar. resigned from the Gemini Studios announcing their departure with a press ad. They were invited by Jupiter pictures boss M. Somasundaram to join his unit writer - director A. S. A. Samy, who was the King maker at Jupiter, welcomed the duo with open arms. Their first project was a brilliant adaptation of the William Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night. The film had imposing sets (Art director A. K. Sekhar), who had also designed the set for the Gemini Studios Block Buster Chandralekha (1948 film).
Plot
Prince Adiththan and his Sister Princess Chandrika(Madhuri Devi), who are separated in a shipwreck. Chandrika is shipwrecked on the cost of Vasanthapuri Kingdom and she comes ashore with the help of a fisherman. She loses contact with her twin brother Adiththan(again Madhuri Devi), whom she believes to be drawned. Disguising herself as a young man under the name as "Kalaimani", she enters the service of Vasantha Kumaran's Palace, who posed at the Royal Poetry Position. Vasanthakumaran(S. A. Natarajan) has convinced himself that he in love with Megala Devi(Anjali Devi), whose father and brother have recently died and who refuses to see charming things, be in the company of man and entertain lover or marriage proposals from anyone the Vasanthakumaran included, Until seven years have passed. Vasantha Kumaran then uses "Kalaimani" as an intermediary to profess his passionate love before Megala Devi. However, forgetting about the seven years in his case, falls in love with Kalaimani as she does not realise the Vasantha Kumaran's messenger is a women in disguise.In the meantime, Chandrika has fallen love with the Vasantha Kumaran creating a love triangle between Vasantha Kumaran, Chandrika and Megala Devi. Chandrika loves Vasantha Kumaran, Vasantha Kumaran loves Megala Devi, and Megala Devi loves Chandrika disguise as Kalaimani. Adithan(again Madhuri Devi) arrives on the Vasanthapuri which adds confusion of mistaken identity. Mistaking Adiththan for Kalaimani, Megala Devi asks him to marry her. Finally, when Kalaimani and Adiththan appear in the presence of both Megala Devi and Vasantha Kumaran, there is more wonder and confusion at their similarity. At this point, Chandrika reveals her disguise and that Adiththan is her twin brother. The ends in declaration of marriage between vasantha Kumaran weds Chandrika and Adiththan weds Megala Devi.

Randor Guy stated the article not many are aware the lyricist Kannadasan got his break in this film with his first song Kalangathiru Manamey for which K. Ramnoth paid him 100 rupees as remuneration. Ramnoth used an innovation for the Voice of the "Male" Madhuri Devi. He made the noted stage, Screen and TV Star V. Gopalakrishnan (Gopi), then a college student and working with K. Ramnoth his disciple lend his voice to the actress(Madhuri Devi). To economise on dubbing, he did not project the sequences on a screen in a recording theatre as is normally done but asked Gopi to utter the lines listening to the Original dialogue spoken Madhuri Devi through an ear phone from the projector many were sceptical about his experiment. But it turned out to be a success.
Reception
The film fairly hit at the Box - Office as expected. The changing trends in Tamil Cinema were believed to the reason for stories, of Kings and queens not finding favour with moviegoers. Randor Guy stated The film had the Maestro contributions of Ramnoth - Sekar, liting Music, excellent photography, gorgeous sets and fine performance of lead actors and Actress.
