Kanakapura is one of the tehsils of Ramanagara district in Karnataka state of India. It is known for its production of silk and granite.

History
The settlement was originally named "Kaankaanhalli". In 1791, during the Anglo-Mysore Wars, the army of Lord Cornwallis passed through Kaankaanhalli.
Location
Kanakapura is situated near the bank of Arkavati River, 57 km (35 mi) from Bangalore, and 80 km (50 mi) from Mysore.
