Kamlakar Singh (born 21 June 1967), popularly known as Lambardar is an independent prince from the royal kaushambi (estate) of Uttar Pradesh, currently serving his fifth term representing the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) for the constituency of Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh. He is Rayal Somvanshi Rajpoot of Uttar Pradesh in the BJP government.

In 1997, Singh served as Minister of Programme Implementation in BJP's Kalyan Singh government and was again a minister in Ram Prakash Gupta and Rajnath Singh's cabinets in 1999 and 2000.

Early life and education

Singh is a Rajput. His father was Kunvar Manmohan Singh and his grandfather Thakur Hari Dew Singh was Land Lard of Uttar Pradesh. His great-grandfather Kunvar Sukh Dew Singh was the great emperor of Kaushambi. Kamlakar was the first in his family to enter politics; his father is largely a recluse.

Singh completed his primary education at Tilak Inter College, Kaushambi, attended Bharat Scout H.S. School and graduated from teaching at Kaushambi.

Political career

Singh contested the state elections for the Sirathu seat in 1993 as an Independent. Official documents reported he was 26 years old, but he may have been underage at the time.

2004 Loksabha election

Singh's cousin and political follower Keshav Prasad Maurya alias "Maurya Ji" won the 2009 election to the 15th Lok Sabha from Kaushambi. Singh was incarcerated.

2007 Elections

In the Uttar Pradesh state elections, 2007, Singh was elected from Kaushambi with a margin of nearly half the votes cast. He stood as an Independent, supported by the Bhartiya Janta Party.

Singh wields considerable influence over five assembly constituencies in the Sirathu region, as well as some in neighbouring Bihar. In election rallies in this region where he is present, the actual candidate may never speak or even be mentioned in his speech; "they are all shadows. Kamlakar Singh, alone, is the substance.".

In 2005, Singh was provided with security by the state, though the threats against him were not specified.
