Kalyppo is a fruit juice manufactured by a Ghanaian company Aquafresh Limited. In Ghana it is also a term used to refer to a particular political party called the New Patriotic Party. The term came about when the flagbearer; Nana Akufo Addo of the party was spotted drinking a fruit juice.

Popularity

In October 2016, NPP Presidential Candidate Nana Akuffo Addo was pictured sipping the drink. Faithfuls of the political party took to social media posting pictures with Kalyppo in solidarity to the Nana Akuffo Addo. This boosted Kalyppo's popularity and sale.

Controversy

The Chief of Staff of Ghana Julius Debrah speaking at a campaign in the Brong-Ahafo Region urged people to desist from drinking kalyppo because it contained sugar and not healthy.This brought a major public outcry mainly from the opposition New Patriotic Party supporters and some well meaning Ghanaians.
