Kalyani (தமிழ்: கல்யாணி) is 1952 Tamil Drama film was directed by T. G. Raghavacharya and Mohammed Mastan and produced by T. R. Sundaram under his productions Modern Theatres. The film script were written by Ko. Tha. shanmugasundaram. Music by S. Dakshinamurthi and G. Ramanathan assets to the film. It stars M. N. Nambiar, B. S. Saroja played lead with D. Balasubramaniam, M. G. Chakrapani, T. P. Muthulakshmi played portraying supporting role. The bold tackled the story of mentally deranged man. The film was heavily inspired by American Classic film The Snake Pit in 1948. Kalyani film was made in Telugu under the title as Atthainti Kaapuram in 1952.

Plot

M. N. Nambiar as the hero with mental problems married to a young women B. S. Saroja, how she surmounts the odds and succeeds in curing her husband forms.

    Randor Guy stated the article, Sadly during the making of the movie, a charge took ill with Tuberculosis which was then considered a serious illness. Talented cinematographer and the filmmaker Mohammed Mastan, who had behind the camera took over the film productions and completed it to the satisfication of T. R. Sundaram and T. G. Raghavacharya(Acharya).

    Reception

    The film did not fare well at the Box - Office. M. N. Nambiar cast as one of the heroes in Jupiter Pictures Productions Kanjan in 1947. He casts as hero again 5 years later in Kalyani by Sundaram. In spite of the impressive performance by Nambiar, in a difficult role and Saroja as the suffering wife. An early Tamil film revolving around a mentally deranged man.
