Kalyan Bulchand Advani (AKA Kalyan Advani) (Sindhi: ڪلياڻ بولچند آڌواڻي) was born on 10 December 1911 at Hyderabad, Sindh. He was a great literary writer and compiler of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Poetry as “Shah Jo Risalo” in 1958. He was lecturer in English department. He had also translated Kālidāsa’s masterpiece Shakuntala in Sindhi Language. He died on 27th March 1994.

Education
He had done his matriculation from Hyderabad, Sindh, Higher Education from Karachi.
Professional career
He became lecturer after obtaining degree of M.A and reached up to the post of professor. After partition of sub-continent, he migrated from Pakistan and lived at Mumbai.
Literary career
Kaliyan Advani ‘s knowledge about Sindhi, Persian and English languages was notable. Because of mother language, he loved Sindhi language. He was a great Sindhi research scholar. His critical works on the Trinity of Sindhi classical poets Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Sachal Sarmast and Sami are testimony to such scholarship. He had worked on Sachal Sarmast a mystic poet and described him as an icon of social harmony.
Publications
His books are few but a treasure for Sindhi literature. His work on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetry is monumental. He compiled Shah Jo Risalo in 1958 published from Mumbai which later became his one of greatest achievement and one of the authentic Shah Jo Risalo in all compilations. He compiled this Risalo in extra ordinary way where he has given the meaning of difficult words, explanation of every verse and has told the background story of every dastaan (Chapetr). He had translated Kālidāsa’s great work Shakuntala in Sindhi language.
Awards
This achievement made him recipient of award given by Sahitya Akademi Award. For this work he was also bestowed gold medals and honours from many other literary associations. His first ward winning publication was Sindhi version of Kalidas’s masterpiece “Shakuntala”. Raz-o-niyaz is also one of famous compilation of 1966, related to poems. In 1970 he was part of Indian delegation of writers to France, sent by Government of India. He has also remained a member of Sindhi Advisory Board of prestigious Sahitya Academy.
Death
He died on 27 March 1994.
