Kalpakanchery (കല്‍പകഞ്ചേരി) is a one of the fastest growing village in Kerala State and a gram panchayat in the Malappuram district, state of Kerala, India. The town is located 23 kilometres (14 mi) south-west of Malappuram. Kadungathukundu , Puthanathani , Kuraga and Randathani are the four towns in Kalapakanchery. It is a centre of academic institutions and other offices. There are three higher secondary schools, One Arabic college, Two industrial training centres, One un-aided high school, 4 primary schools, Kalpakancheri police station, Bafakhy Yatheem Khana, Sub-register Office and Kalpakancheri Panchayat Office .

The name Kalpakanchery was chosen as it was the land of coconut trees. The Panchayath has many schools and had a weekly market on Wednesday. The weekly market was held in present day Melangadi, between Puthanathani and Kadungathukundu. The bigger towns like Tirur, Kottakkal and Valanchery are around 8 or 9 kilometres (5.0 or 5.6 mi) away. The panchayat was a part of the Kingdom of Tanur (Vettattnad) in medieval times. The Lord of Azhvanchery and Lord of Kalpakanchery were usually present at the coronation of a new Zamorin of Calicut. Some 20,000 people attended a Khilafat Movement meeting held in Kalpakancheri just before the 1921 Mappila rebellion. During the uprising, a Muslim gang under the leadership of Odayappurath Chekkutty from Kalpakancheri guarded Kizhake kovilakam and Arya Vaidya Sala of Kottakkal.

As of the 2001 India census, Kalpakanchery had a population of 31,263 with 14,801 males and 16,462 females.

Transport

Railway Station: Tirur Railway Station is one of the major railway stations in thIS region which is 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) from the town. Almost every train stops here, connecting the Malappuram district to the rest of the country. Road: kalpakancheri is well connected to the other cities by road, National Highway 17 passes through the town. The NH-17 connects Kochi with Kozhikode and Mumbai. There are regular buses plying to other cities like Malappuram, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Guruvayur, Thrissur and Coimbatore. There are a few private buses offering over night journey to Bangalore, trivandrum , coimbatore Chennai and Mumbai. Nearest Airport: Calicut International Airport is approximately 27 kilometres away.and Kochi International Airport 117 km. The town has banks including State Bank of India , Canara Bank, Catholic Syrian Bank at Kalpakanchery town kadaungathundu and State Bank of Travancore, federal Bank .
