Kakapora is one of the tehsils of the Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir state in India. It is located 20 kilometres (12 mi) to the south of Srinagar. The district road passes through the town which connects it to District Headquarters Pulwama. It is situated on the banks of Jehlum river and Romash, one of the tributaries of the former. The people are mostly associated with agriculture. Kakapora is a historical place and as mentioned in Kalhan's book of rajtarangni.In modern times kakapora is often referred as rice bowl of Kashmir and the paddy is first sown in the town. There are various commercial units in Kakapora the boost the economic status of town besides agricultural. The people are educated and few are government employees.

History

Kakapora has historical importance from ancient times of Uttpal dynasty of King Awantiwarman. An archeological manoment a temple of 11th century AD has been excavated near Astan Masjid in Astan Mohallah Kakapora. The temple has only remaining sanctum with some ruins. Many standing remains including stone carved images of female character whom locals call "Rani" and a bath tub has been found. The monument is protected by archaeological survey of India and beautification, fencing floor reconstruction has been done by the department.

In September 2015 floods the temple oozed fresh water due to its below level that people of surrounding area used for domestic and bath purpose. The temple was affected by water lodging and reconstruction work was again started in March 2016.

The temple is place of refreshment for locals during summer especially after sunset local youth rest in landscape of the temple.

Kakapora was set up as an administrative unit as tehsil by the government of Jammu and Kashmir on 18-08-13.

Talib Shah

Talib shah (original name Mohammad Afzal Talib) , Talib Hussain @ Abu UmarShamaas of Kakapora was a young Islamic scholar and historian in South kashmir’s Pulwama district. He ended his primary and secondary schooling from Government Higher secondary school kakapora. He was enthusiastic and a religious minded and more importantly a sober person belonging to a middle-class family. He used to help poor, widows and needy either by material assistance or financial backing.

Education

He completed his primary education from Muslim Gousia middle school and ended secondary education from Government Higher secondary school kakapora. Talib shah enrolled to Government Degree College Pulwama and completed his graduation in 2011. Later He moved to Nagpur for higher studies and completed his masters in Physical Education from Nagpur University 2013. After arriving back to kashmir he enrolled in IGNOU for Master of History. Talib shah was full of life and used to participate in various sports activities but most important thing striking to his mind was Islam and religious prosperity. He used to attend religious meetings while writing bulk of papers on Islam and related events . Early Life Talib was born to Shamus ud din shah and Jawhara Bano of kakapora and spend his childhood with his peer at native village.

Political Life

Talib was not affiliated with any mainstream political party of Jammu and Kashmir but a strong human rights activist and religious. He was a strong protestor of Indian Occupation of Kashmir and greatly devastating by Kunan Poshpora , Gawkadil massacre, Asiya Neelofar double murder and rape case Forced disappearance and unknown mass grave where some of his moot points . . He had strong empathy with the relative of those who have missed their loved one. The uncertainty prevailed on Kashmir since independence of India and Pakistan and unresolved dispute of Kashmir forced him to ponder upon. He began to research the problem of Kashmir on an entire and in leisure time he often wrote papers on such grave problems. Talib was futuristic, candid and with a mission to back underprivileged poor and needy. There are hundreds of youth who have peeved talib as there role model in correspondence to his devoted life for religious and social cause. Imprisonment Talib shah was imprisoned many times and often nocturnal raids to his home was routine by police and army. Affiliation After the uprising of 2008 and 2010 agitation against the India he was picked up many times by police and army , questioned and intrograted which annoyed him and he was fed up by routine raides. Meanwhile, he used write books, articles and papers regarding the Kashmir and religion. But unfortunately the work of writing was trash by the time police captured him and burnt all the papers. Talib shah was fond of reading and writing and most beautiful work by him was the note on” Life and death” ,Snow ,How to Live Life etc. He was put away and Public Safety Act was slapped on him in 2010 and 22 cases of murder , lobbying, attempt to murder, hindering government service employees from work etc. were registered on him . In 2011 he was released on bail and advised to appear in court for hearing twice a week. On on day on 27th of march he left home to appear in exam in University of Kashmir but the hearing was due on same day , fed up by this he left home and joined Armed group Lashkar–e- Toiba . Talib shah was declared militant and 2 months later he was promoted as Lashkar commander for south Kashmir Pulwama district due his educational background and character.

Death

On Oct 6 , 2015 he embrssed martyrdom at his native village kakapora . He was gunned down by Indian army and police in long gunbattle. He was a let commander for around a year . He earned a great status within the organisation and was best disciplined person .
