KWIC (99.3 FM) is an American radio station broadcasting a classic hits format. Licensed to Topeka, Kansas, U.S., the station is currently owned by Cumulus Media.

Contents

1992–1993: KESC

This was a temporary set of call letters.

1993–1996: KWIC – Quick 99.3

The KWIC call letters were first assigned June 30, 1993. The station went on the air in April 1994.

1996–1999: KWIC – Hot 99.3

This was fed from ABC's Platinum Gold service.

1999–2004: KWIC – Oldies 99.3

Cumulus swapped formats between 99.3 and 102.9. KWIC picked up the satellite oldies format, although they added local hosts for morning drive and middays. 102.9 picked up a locally based Top 40 format. But the oldies on 99.3 was faring much better.

2004–present: KWIC – 99.3 the Eagle

Soon after a local country station received a new owner, we got this suspicious format change from Cumulus, which cut into two of their other stations, KDVV and KMAJ-FM. I suspected at the time the owner of that country station had designs on a format change of their own to cut in to KDVV or KMAJ. KWIC has rated in the middle-to-upper part of the ratings for most of its span.

Programming

Beginning with the 2014-15 season, KWIC, along with KMAJ (AM) (1440), will be home to the Kansas Jayhawks football and basketball (men/women's) teams. Previously, the games had been aired on WIBW (AM) (580).
