History & Programming

KTKU signed on the air in 1984 as the first commercial FM station in the capital city of Juneau. It was debuted under the ownership of Roy Paschal, longtime cable guru of South Central Alaska, as the sister station of KJNO.

Programming was directed by Paul Demers, who put together a full-time airstaff including Rick Rydell as the morning show host, Paul Glazier as middays, Paul Demers afternoons, and Tracy Sharp as evenings.

Dennis Egan, the former mayor of Juneau and Juneau's current state senator, was the station's first general manager.

KTKU was Top 40 with album cuts when it debuted as Taku 105, being branded after the massive Taku ice field which lies directly above the city.

Today, Taku 105 plays hot country and is home of the much talked about Morning Crew -
