KSLR (630 AM) is a San Antonio, Texas area Salem Communications owned Christian Talk radio station. KSLR airs national programs such as Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson, Jesus is Our Shepherd with Pastor Ray McMahon, Dennis Rainey, Hank Hanegraaff, Chuck Swindoll, Alistair Begg, and James MacDonald. KSLR also airs numerous local radio shows such as Dr. Ed Skidmore, Gilbert Perez, and Allen Randolph.

History

  • 1975 - Salem Communications purchased KMFM-FM 96.1 and eventually changed call letters to KSLR-FM. Mel Taylor is hired as GM.
  • 1977 – John Walk is hired as KSLR-FM Program Director and hosts daily music show.
  • 1983 – Salem also purchases KMAC-AM – Mel Tailor GM, John Walk Program Director.
  • 1984 – Salem sold FM and changed KMAC-FM call letters to KSLR. Roy Butler hired for music shift.
  • 1988 – Salem sold KSLR-AM to Communicom Corporation of America (Denver, CO). Bob Lepine GM, Mary Dockery GSM, John Walk Operations Mgr.
  • 1990 – September, Dave Gordon hired as Program Director.
  • 1992 – July, Bob Lepine resigns and joins Family Life Today with Dennis Rainey. Carl Dean hired as GM, John Walk debuts as host of Crosscurrents. A daily one-hour talk show.
  • 1993 – Mary Dockery resigns as GSM.
  • 1994 – August, Salem re-acquires KSLR-AM, Carl Dean stays with Communicom of America. John Walk promoted to interim GM.
  • 1995 – January, John Walk resigns after 18 years with KSLR. Jeff Crabtree becomes new GM.
  • 1997 – July, Jeff Crabtree resigns, Dave Gordon promoted to interim GM. Adam Macmanus talk show debuts on KSLR.
  • 1998 – February, Mary Dockery hired as GSM.
  • 1998 – July, Dave Gordon resigns as GM, Mary Dockery is promoted to GM.
  • 1999 – Pat Rogers hired.
  • 2000 – February, Dave Gordon hired as OM.
  • 2000 – September, Salem acquires 930 KLUP-AM, Pat Rogers assigned to morning show.
  • 2002 – January, Sonny Melendrez hired for KLUP.
  • 2002 – February, Mary Dockery resigns, Dave Gordon promoted to GM.
