KRPR is a non-commercial radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to serve the community of Rochester, Minnesota. It is the only locally owned and programmed station in the city.

Contents

The studios are located on South Broadway in Rochester. The station broadcasts from a transmitter site East of the city and plays an expansive variety of classic rock. Being a non-commercial station, KRPR presents brief underwriting messages produced by station personalities rather than commercials.

KRPR is a member of AMPERS, The Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations.

Programs

KRPR also presents several original and syndicated weekly radio features focusing on the classic rock genre.

  • Into the Music - An hour-long trip through the history and evolution of a featured artist.
  • The Classic Album Show - A weekly presentation of a full-length album from the rock catalog.
  • Basement Sessions - An hour of rock music hosted by two of Rochesters’ favorite Classic Rockers.

  • Look Back - A rock retrospective. Each program centering on the top hit music of a year. A class reunion on the radio.
  • Dennis Mitchel's Breakfast with the Beatles - Featuring the music of the Fab Four and all things Beatle-maniac!
  • Floydian Slip - Presenting the entire Floyd catalog, from the origins through today of the iconic band.
  • The Grateful Dead Hour - A weekly Dead review via interviews and concerts from The Dead's own vault.

    World news is provided by USA Radio Network. Local news is provided by KIMT-TV and The Med City Beat.

    Sound Quality

    KRPR uses a minimal amount of dynamic range compression combined with audiophile quality signal processing as well as no data compression to achieve its' full fidelity sound.

    History

    KRPR began broadcasting in 1975 under the ownership of Rochester Community and Technical College. In the late 1990s the station was sold to Rochester Public Radio, the current operator and licensee.
