History
KORO was founded in 1977 as a locally owned, mostly independent station airing programs of the Spanish International Network, a forerunner of Univision. The original owners included lawyers, doctors, and other professionals.
The nearly 1,000-foot-tall (300 m) tower was shared by KORO and radio station KBCB (now KRYS-FM).
KORO's call letters are pronounced in station IDs as "K-ORO".
Digital channels
The station's digital channel is multiplexed:
Analog-to-digital conversion
KORO shut down its analog signal, over UHF channel 28, on June 12, 2009, the official date in which full-power television stations in the United States transitioned from analog to digital broadcasts under federal mandate. The station's digital signal remained on its pre-transition UHF channel 27. Through the use of PSIP, digital television receivers display the station's virtual channel as its former UHF analog channel 28.
