kLab (knowledge Lab) is a technology hub in Kigali. Tenants can use the space for free to work on their projects and attempt to turn them into viable businesses. Experienced mentors provide both technical and business assistance to the hub's members. kLab organises and hosts various activities such as showcases, workshops, hackathons and networking sessions to add value to members' experience.

Mission

kLab's mission is "to promote, facilitate and support the development of innovative ICT solutions by nurturing a vivid community of entrepreneurs and mentors".

Founding

kLab was founded through a partnership of public and private organizations coming together to try to address the need for a software focused hub in Rwanda. The original founding organizations consisted of the Private Sector Federation, Rwandan Software Association, Rwandan Development Board, iHills, CODEPAC, JICA as well as Nyaruka. The Rwandan Development Board played a pivotal role in the opening of kLab as they provide the physical space, power and internet to run the space, however JICA was responsible for funding the original build out.

Membership

Membership to kLab is open to anyone working in the IT industry in Rwanda.

Tenants

Tenants are expected to have a project in mind that they wish to accomplish during their stay at kLab. Tenants are expected to have shown some progress on their goals before applying for membership.

Mentors

Mentors are expected to actively donate some of their time in kLab to help other members of the community become successful.

Selection Process

Potential members send in their details online and new intakes are brought it at regular intervals throughout the year.

Physical space

kLab is located on the 6th floor of Telecom House, Kacyiru, Kigali.

Mentorship Program

kLab runs one of the most innovative mentorship programs. It is designed to build the business acumen of the mentees and share of information and knowledge between mentee and mentor. Mentees will attend regular meetings during which kLab's network of mentors give talks and tackle different issues on business, leadership, life and entrepreneurship. The mentees have access to kLab's network of business, leadership and technology experts locally and globally.
