The KDI School of Public Policy and Management is a government-run graduate school affiliated to the Korea Development Institute (KDI), and a member of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences. It was founded in 1997 to foster international experts in the field of development economics and public policy.

Highly selective, the school takes on a small number of Korean and international students for its Master's and Ph.D programs. The school offers an innovative educational program focusing on policy and international issues and aims to transform mid-career professionals into leaders of their respective fields by equipping them with new knowledge, vision and a global perspective. The KDI School also draws from a wealth of research and resources from the Korea Development Institute, the nation's leading economic think tank, to share Korea's unique development experience with the global community.
History
The KDI School was established in 1997 by the Korea Development Institute(KDI), which is an autonomous economic policy think tank that was set up by the South Korean government in 1971 to provide research and analysis of economic policy decisions. As Korea's leading think tank, the KDI established its graduate school to educate and develop the next generation of leaders in today's rapidly changing and globalizing economy. The School offers an innovative educational program focusing on policy and international issues and aims to transform mid-career professionals into leaders of their respective fields by equipping them with new knowledge, vision and a global perspective. This was made possible by employing the wealth of research and resources from the KDI, and has contributed to sharing Korea's unique development experience with the global community. It has allowed the KDI School to be recognized throughout Korea and the world as a premier institution for research and learning. The KDI School is counted as 6th Top think tank in Asia, 22nd in the world and 8th best affiliated think tank in the world.

Academic Programs
The KDI School of Public Policy and Management offers master's degree programs and a Ph.D. program. The School's curricula draw from accumulated resources of the KDI and strive to meet the diverse and professional demands of a constantly changing society.
The Master's programs are divided into full-time and part-time courses. Full-time students are able to complete their coursework by the end of the first year and usually spend the second year working on their research component. Full-time students are able to graduate in 18 months. Part-time programs operate in flexible combination of evening and weekend classes. Part-time students can graduate within two years without interrupting their careers. Both full-time and part-time courses are available for the MDP and MPP programs. All classes are conducted in English.

Based on KDI's hand-on experience on development policy, the Master of Development Policy(MDP) program examines various socio-economic issues in both the theoretical and the practical framework. The program provides capacity building for international professionals, including government officials, development consultants and regional specialists who wish to contribute to development policy-making. Additional focus falls on fostering professionals in the field of Official Development Assistance(ODA). Students may declare a concentration from among 7 concentrations but must take development track courses.
The Master of Public Policy(MPP) program is designed to provide a global perspective and professional expertise in public policy areas. The program is highly regarded both in and outside Korea, particularly among developing nations and government officials. The faculty with outstanding research backgrounds and empirical knowledge offer a leading curriculum that integrates theory and practice. Students may declare a concentration from among 7 concentrations upon completing 39 credits toward their graduation requirements The highly diverse student composition provides a unique educational environment. Both domestic and international students from all walks of life, including the government, the media and NGOs are able to share ideas, knowledge and experiences, and build a dynamic global network.
The KDI School offers Ph.D. in Public Policy with two specializations to choose from: Economic Policy and Development Policy. A one-year residency is required for all students, during which students must take at least 9 classes (27 credits). Afterwards, they are required to pass a comprehensive examination covering their field of study. Once they pass the exam, students must take 9 more credits (36 credits in total), upon which they are required to pass an oral examination in their field of study, followed by the submission of a thesis. Starting from their second year, students have the option of pursuing work and study simultaneously.
The Global Master's Program(GMP) is a special KDI School program for Korean central/local government officials and private sector mid-level managers. GMP Scholars spend one academic year at the KDI School and one year abroad at a partner institution, which enables them to acquire two degrees during their period of study.
All master's degree students can participate in any of the existing exchange programs after completing three terms. Credits earned from the exchange program can be transferred to the KDI School after consultation with the Office of Academic and Student Affairs. Students participating in the exchange program will pay tuition only to the KDI School, not to the host institution.
Starting from 2012, students can take classes and earn credits and/or a degree in China and Japan, sponsored by a newly introduced, inter-governmental scholarship called CAMPUS Asia. Designed to promote cooperation among Asian universities, CAMPUS Asia allows students to obtain an additional master's degree while living and studying in the three Northeast Asian countries.
Admissions
KDI School of Public Policy and Management is admitting students in Spring (February) and Fall (September) and one time for PHD in Spring semester. Admission requirements are posted in the school's website. The KDI School strives to support students who have excellent academic records but are unable to secure funding from other sources. Assistance is available through various fellowships, scholarships or work-study opportunities.
Student Body
It has over 1100 International Alumni Network (Among 107 Nations) since 1997 and double degree programs with 32 top-notched universities globally. The school also offers in 100% English lectures with globally renown faculties in their fields. The student body is drawn from a highly selective pool of government officials, business managers and exceptional students from Korea and abroad. The majority of students are mid-career professionals with 5–10 years of working experience in government, business, NGOs, media or academia. International students account for around 50% of the student body, further promoting the internationalism of the School and the creation of a powerful alumni network.
