History
The station originally signed on in 1949 as KBKW. The calls represented the founder, Ben K. Weatherwax. Mr. Weatherwax was part of a prominent local family, and was the first full-time radio newsman in Southwest Washington, employed at KXRO until the launch of KBKW. In later years, the calls changed to KAYO, with a change to a country music format. On 1995-04-28, the station reverted to the current KBKW, and the sister FM retained the KAYO calls.
Current programming
KBKW currently carries Doug McDowell's CoffeeTalk, the area's only long-form local morning talk show, Doug Stephan, Michael Medved, Andrea Tantoros, Kate Delaney, Jerry Doyle, and Michael Savage. Local news for Western Washington is covered by News Director Dave Haviland since 2007.
