The ju-ju zombie first appeared in first edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in the original Monster Manual II (1983).
The ju-ju zombie appeared in the second edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in Monstrous Compendium Volume One (1989), and is reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993).
The juju zombie appeared in third edition Dungeons & Dragons for the Forgotten Realms in Unapproachable East (2003) as a template, using the juju zombie bugbear as a sample creature.

A juju zombie is a free-willed, sentient zombie often created from powerful curses or other fell magics.
