Juan Pablo Daranas Molina

Biography

Daranas graduated as a film/video director from the University of Arts and completed his studies at the New York Film Academy (Los Angeles and New York campuses).

He has worked as a director, producer, screenwriter, cinematographer and/or editor for several production companies, comprising web content, publicity, music videos, visual arts registrations, documentaries and his own films, which have been screened in more than forty countries.

In 2014, his short films Yunaisy and The Premiere (co-writer and editor) received worldwide critical acclaim and were programmed by more than 40 international film festivals. He was also selected to participate in Talents Guadalajara and invited to show his work at Yale University.

In 2015, he directed a series of films for Galleria Continua (in collaboration with Louis Vuitton) featuring top international artists like Daniel Buren, Nikhil Chopra, Carlos Garaicoa, Shilpa Gupta, Anish Kapoor, Joseph Kosuth, Gabriel Orozco, Michelangelo Pistoletto, etc.

His medium-length film Twilight had its world premiere at the Glasgow Short Film Festival. It was awarded Best Short Film at the 2016 New Jersey Film Festival and Best of Fest at the Martinique International Film Festival, among several other distinctions.

Since 2015, Daranas is based in New York City, where he has made several commission films, including The Bronx Museum of the Arts' Annual Gala video.
