Juan Gregorio Bazán (1510-1570) was a Spanish Noblemen, Captain, Conquistador of Peru, Lieutenant Governor of Tucumán.

Biography

Born 1510 in Talavera de la Reina, Toledo. Juan Gregorio Bazán arrived to America, with its relative Francisco de Aguirre. Bazan settled in Panama, then he travels to Peru, to join the forces of Pablo de Meneses fighting against Captain Francisco Pizarro, during the civil war in Peru. In 1568 Bazán was part of a contingent to explore the area Río Bermejo. Bazán participated the foundations of cities Ciudad de Cañete, San Juan Bautista de la Rivera and San Miguel de Tucumán.

Family

In 1570 Juan Gregorio Bazán traveled ciudad de Los Reyes, for reunited with his wife and children after thirty years, his wife Catalina de Placencia, met with her husband, accompanied by his daughter María, and son in law. Return to Chile Bazán and family were ambushed by the tribes Humaguacas and Puquiles, Bazán dies defending his family, wife and sons manage to survive with the help of his slave Francisco Congo, they seeking refuge in the mountains.
