Yorkshire sent Shaw out on loan to Gloucestershire at the start of the 2016 season, for him to gain experience of more regular first team cricket. In June 2016, his parent club recalled Shaw early, following an injury crisis that left Yorkshire short of bowlers. He made his first-class cricket debut for his home county against Durham at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street, which started on 20 June 2016. He had figures of 2-38, and 0-81 when bowling, and scored 24 in his only innings.
