Visiting Aloha State's House Speaker Joseph M. Souki
Joseph M. Souki (born 1933) is an American Democratic politician and former Speaker of the Hawaii House of Representatives. He replaced former Speaker Calvin Say in 2013, after organizing a coalition with both Democrats and Republicans. This is his second time as Speaker, having served previously from 1993 to 1999. He has represented Hawaii's 8th District since 1982, and has served as Chair of the Finance Committee and the Transportation Committee. He has been the primary sponsor of 825 bills. Before becoming a politician, Souki was a real estate broker and Executive Director of the Maui Economic Opportunity. He also served as a Private First Class in the United States Army from 1954-1956.
