Josef Blumel (15 August 1920 – 19 September 1944) was a highly decorated Hauptmann in the Luftwaffe during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Josef Blumel was killed on 19 September 1944 near Riga, Latvia. Josef Blumel was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 28 January 1945.
