José Medina is a professor of philosophy at Vanderbilt University. He is a member of the American Philosophical Association, the North American Wittgenstein Society, the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy, the Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology, and the Tennessee Philosophical Association.

Awards and fellowships
In 2013 Medina's book The Epistemology of Resistance: Gender and Racial Oppression, Epistemic Injustice, and Resistant Imagination was the winner of the 2012 North American Society for Social Philosophy Book Award.
