In September 2014, it was announced that Vogt-Roberts would direct Kong: Skull Island. The film was released on March 10, 2017.

Vogt-Roberts is directing a film based on the Metal Gear series, after reportedly starting talks with Sony Pictures in 2014. Jay Basu has been hired to write the script. In interviews, Vogt-Roberts had repeatedly expressed his passion for video games, and for the Metal Gear series in particular, and had previously met with Hideo Kojima to discuss the making of the film. In Kong: Skull Island, a boat bears the name Gray Fox after the character of the same name in Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and Metal Gear Solid. Vogt-Roberts explained how he invited potential screenplay writers to his house to play several Metal Gear games, and noted the difficulty in keeping the game's tone for the film, as well as acknowledging the generally poor critical reception of previous film adaptations of video games.

In 2017, Vogt-Roberts pitched a Red Son adaptation to Warner Brothers, as an "offshoot" of the DC Extended Universe with different actors for Superman and Batman, but "was told no." Later in the year, Vogt-Roberts directed a live-action trailer for Destiny 2, expressing to GameSpot that "anything related to video games is a labor of love."

Personal life

On September 11, 2017, Vogt-Roberts was attacked and assaulted in a bar fight in Saigon. "I was brutally and maliciously assaulted by a group of several men," Jordan Vogt-Roberts wrote in a letter to the U.S. embassy.
