Biography

Jordan Steven Gruber was born in Laurelton, Queens, New York and grew up there and in Nassau County, New York. He graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy, with Honors, and Phi Beta Kappa, from Harpur College of Binghamton University, and received an M.A.P.P.A.A. (Masters of Public Policy Analysis and Administration) from the same institution. He then worked as a grantwriter in New York City for a nonprofit social services agency. In 1985 he moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, and in 1988 received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he graduated near the top of his class, was the Research and Projects Editor of the Virginia Law Review, was a member of the Order of the Coif, and was named to the Society of Fellows.

Career

After moving to Menlo Park, California with his then fiancee attorney Gail Slocum (who later became Mayor of Menlo Park and to whom he is still married), and after working as an attorney for one year in the prominent Silicon Valley law firm Cooley Godward, he became the managing editor of Gnosis Magazine, a journal of the Western esoteric traditions. Subsequently he began writing book-length articles and treatises for Bancroft Whitney and Lawyers Cooperative Publishing, now subsidiaries of Thomson Reuters, culminating in an authoritative 1,070 page treatise entitled Electronic Evidence, published in 1995, and which is still a “recommended” forensic and case law reference. As a “a noted legal and technical authority on videotape evidence,” Gruber and his co-author Fausto “Tito” Poza, an M.I.T. trained audio expert, gave a presentation on altering electronic evidence at the 1996 Computers, Freedom and Privacy Conference. Gruber has also been published in Wired magazine roughly ten times, the Noetic Sciences Bulletin, Gnosis Magazine, and the National Law Review. After returning to the legal field to work in the Office of Chief Counsel at NASA Ames, he left to found Enlightenment.Com. He is currently a ghostwriter— The Practical Wordsmith— working mainly for the financial services industry, although he has also ghostwritten business and personal development books for clients. In 2013 his client, Tom Anderson, thanked him in the preliminary materials for writing the publishable manuscript that became the bestselling book, The Value Of Debt (Wiley).

Enlightenment.Com and Ken Wilber

He founded the website “Enlightenment.Com” and went on-line in early 1996 with a variety of articles and interviews. In 1999 the Enlightenment.Com website caught the eye of the American philosopher Ken Wilber, who invited him to Boulder for tea, and then asked him to become a Founding Member of Integral Business section of the Integral Institute.

In April 2001 he sat down with Ken Wilber for what would be the first-ever audio interview of the philosopher, that is, the first time any of his growing audience could actually hear his voice. The resulting product, “Speaking of Everything,” a 2-CD set plus glossary pamphlet edited by Wilber and illustrated by Alex Grey, eventually sold out its production run of 5,000 copies, and although was criticized as not being appropriate for Wilber beginners, was also commended for its interesting and lively style, as well as for its attractive look which resulted from the efforts of producer Jeramy Hale and designer Brooks Cole.

Through Enlightenment.Com he has also published written, audio, and video interviews with a wide range of other psycho-spiritual luminaries, including Deepak Chopra, Andrew Cohen (spiritual teacher), and Jean Houston. He is currently passionate about and writing on physical and personal enlightenment through Rebound exercise and is preparing to author and co-author an extended set of SuperBound® Guides on this subject. Finally, his essay “Beyond My Ken: Personal Ponderings on the Philosopher Profound,” published on the Integral World website, invites a reconsideration of Ken Wilber, his importance, and his impact.
