Overview

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 165 Jorasanko (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: 22, 23, 25, 27, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 and 43 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

Jorasanko (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 24 Kolkata Uttar (Lok Sabha constituency). Prior to the Indian general election, 2009 it was part of Calcutta North West (Lok Sabha constituency).

2016

In 2016. Smita Bakshi of AITMC was reelected for a second term, with a reduced majority. BJP candidate Rahul Sinha came second by a very small margin.

2011

In the 2011 election, Smita Bakshi of Trinamool Congress defeated her nearest rival Janki Singh of CPI(M).

1977-2006

In the 2006 state assembly elections, Dinesh Bajaj of Trinamool Congress won the Jorasanko assembly seat defeating Shyam Sundar Gupta of Forward Bloc. Satya Narain Bajaj of Trinamool Congress defeated Shyam Sundar Gupta of Forward Bloc in 2001. Deokinandan Poddar of Congress defeated Satish Narayan Bajaj of Forward Bloc in 1996, Sukumar Das of Forward Bloc in 1991 and 1987, and Shyam Sundar Gupta of Forward Bloc in 1982. Vishnu Kant Shastri representing Janata Party defeated Deokinandan Poddar of Congress in 1977.

1951-1972

Deokinandan Poddar of Congress won in 1972,1971and 1969. R.K.Poddar of Congress won in 1967. Badri Prasad Poddar of Congress won in 1962. Anandi Lal Poddar of Congress won in 1957. In independent India’s first election in 1951 Amarendra Nath Basu of Forward Bloc (MG) won the Jorasanko seat.

Colootola

In 1951 there was a seat at Colootola. Anandi Lal Poddar of Congress won it.
