Company
The Jopwell platform was launched in January 2015 by cofounders Porter Braswell and Ryan Williams. Companies using Jopwell have access to a digital pipeline of candidate profiles through which they can market job and internship opportunities and connect with users. The current user base includes Black, Latino/Hispanic, and Native American professionals and students. New users sign up by creating a profile viewable to recruiters at companies using the platform. It aims to solve the “pipeline” problem – a term used to describe some companies’ perceptions that there “aren’t enough good candidates [for diverse recruitment] in the hiring pipeline.”
History
Braswell and Williams met as analysts at Goldman Sachs. Braswell and Williams left their Wall Street jobs to create Jopwell on the belief that their exposure to diversity programming opportunities at an early age gave them strong career paths and that other underrepresented ethnic minorities should be given the same opportunity for success. Jopwell participated in the summer 2015 class of the Y Combinator accelerator in San Francisco.
Jopwell is based in New York City.
Awards & Recognition
On May 24, 2016 Inc.'s 30 Under 30 Award recipients were announced. Porter Braswell and Ryan Williams were selected as recipients of the prestigious award, which recognizes the most dynamic young CEO's and executives in the United States.
Funding
Jopwell has secured a total of $4.22 million in early stage -- angel and seed round -- funding. Investors include Magic Johnson Enterprises, Andreessen Horowitz, Kapor Capital, Y Combinator, Omidyar Network, Valar Ventures, and Rothenberg Ventures.
The Well
The Well is Jopwell’s editorial hub. Launched on April 11, 2016, it is a source for Black, Latino/Hispanic, and Native American professionals and students to find and share career advice and workforce insight.
