Ortagun made his debut in Future Of Wrestling as Johnny Vandal on December 1, 2001. In his debut match, he defeated Al Bino to win the FOW Light Heavyweight Championship. On February 9, 2002, Vandal lost his title against J-Dawg in a three-way who including Tommy Vandal. On August 10, 2002, Vandal re-captured the Light Heavyweight Championship. On August 31, 2002, Vandal lost his title against David Babylon.

In addition to Future Of Wrestling, Vandal also appeared for promotions including Division One Pro Wrestling, Full Impact Pro, Pro Wrestling Zero1, IBelieve In Wrestling, Brain Buster Pro Wrestling, Dragon Gate USA, Pro Wrestling Fusion, Evolve Wrestling and Puerto Rician Championship Wrestling.

On October 15, 2016, Vandal won the AWA Florida Tag Team titles alongside Tyrannus, beating Josh Hess and Mike Reed.

WWE (2013–2014, 2016)

In October 2013, Ortagun received a tryout in WWE's developmental territory NXT on the October 24, 2013 tapings which aired on tape delay on November 23, where he teamed with Chris Rockwell, losing to Hunico and Camacho.

In April 2014 and June 2014, though not signed to WWE, Ortagun made two appearances on NXT, teaming with various wrestlers the likes of Maxwell Chicago and Aaron Solow, losing to The Ascension.

On the May 25, 2016 episode of NXT, Ortagun made another appearance, losing to No Way Jose.

In June 2016, Ortagun was chosen as an alternate for the WWE Crusierweight Classic.

On December 21, 2016 episode of "NXT", Ortagun made yet another appearance, losing to the Authors of Pain.
