Life
He earned a PhD in Theoretical Physics in 1971 from the Imperial College London, and an MSc in Physiology in 1974 from University College London. He was Lecturer in Physiology at the University of Bristol, from 1983 to 1988. He read Physiology at the University of Bristol from 1988 to 1993.
He is Faculty of 1000 section head, for Sensory Systems. He is a trustee for the Hearing Research Trust.
Ashmore is the son of actor Peter Ashmore and actress Rosalie Crutchley. As a seven-year old child, Jonathan Ashmore played Joe in the 1955 film A Kid for Two Farthings, adaptated from the novel by Wolf Mankowitz.
