Sir John Woodcock, CBE, CStJ, QPM (14 January 1932 – 21 September 2012) was Chief Inspector of Constabulary from January 1990 to July 1993.
Woodcock joined the Lancashire Constabulary as a Police cadet in 1950, rising to the rank of Chief Inspector by 1965. He was with the Bedfordshire and Luton Constabulary from 1965 to 1968 (Superintendent to Chief Superintendent); the Gwent Constabulary from 1968 to 1974 (Assistant Chief Constable to Deputy Chief Constable; 1970–74, the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary from 1974 to 1978 (Deputy Chief Constable); the North Yorkshire Police from 1978 to 1979 (Chief Constable; and the South Wales Constabulary (Chief Constable from 1979 to 1983. He was HM Inspector of Constabulary for Wales and the Midlands from 1983 until his appointment to the top job.
