John R. Bass (born 1964) is the Ambassador of the United States to Turkey. He was Ambassador of the United States to Georgia from 2009 to 2012.

President Donald Trump named him as his choice to become the United States Ambassador to Afghanistan on July 20, 2017. His nomination comes as the Trump administration finalizes an Afghanistan strategy review that is likely to result in more US boots on the ground.

Bass is from upstate New York, and is a graduate of Syracuse University. He speaks Italian and French. In October 2012 he was appointed Executive Secretary of the United States Department of State and served as the liaison between the State Department's many bureaus and the leadership offices of the Secretary, the Deputy Secretaries, and the Director of Policy Planning.
