John Kennedy FitzGerald aka "Fitzy (born 4 December 1968 in Toronto) is a former Canadian international soccer player, Lawyer and Businessman. He is related through bloodlines to John Francis "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald, the maternal grandfather of three prominent United States politicians.

Club career

He played for the Toronto Blizzard during this time. Whilst pursuing his undergraduate degree in Economics at the University of Toronto, He played for the Toronto Varsity Blues where he was instrumental in securing a CIAU championship. John FitzGerald also played reserve football in England for in 1987 for both Brentford F.C. and Crystal Palace.

International career

Fitzy was a right-winger, he played for Canada at the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship where he was selected by media sources as one of the top 20 players in the World. He made his senior debut for Canada in a February 1988 friendly match against Bermuda, which was in preparation for Canada's World Cup qualifying Tournament for Italia 90. He earned a total of 12 senior caps. He has also represented Canada at the inaugural 1989 FIFA Futsal World Championship where he scored Canada's first goal against Argentina.

His final international game was a May 1990 friendly match against Mexico.

Retirement

After retiring from soccer due to a knee injury, he became a corporate lawyer with one of Canada's largest law firms. Now a prominent International businessman, he heads up a family investment portfolio based mostly in private equity.
