Biography

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Costello showed interest in music at a young age. He began playing piano and organ at age 5. His skills quickly advanced with professional music lessons. At 13 he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, with his mother. John played keyboards in numerous bands and was a drummer in the Paradise Valley High School Band. His early training and exposure to a wide variety of musical genres laid the framework for his playing, arrangement and production expertise.

After graduating High School in 1981, Costello attended Arizona State University. Instead of completing his degree, he opted to go on the road with a variety of bands including: Miss California, Cheryl Van Cleeve in Atlantic City, QED, Coup d’Etat, Band 1208, and others.

In 1987, John along with partner, Dawn Kerlin formed the band, The Connection. The Connection became a popular variety band, touring worldwide with the USO. The group has performed over 400 AFE/USO shows for military personnel stationed in 28 countries.

John started working in recording studios in 1990 to hone his production and engineering skills. Studio clients included DJ Z-Trip, Kristine W, Glen Campbell Music, Jeff Dayton, Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad Poor Dad), Caroline Records, Michael Schenker, Keel (band), MasterSource Music Catalog, Network Music, Killer Tracks, OneMusic, FirstCom, The Hollywood Edge, Oregon Catholic Press and KTVK to name a few.

In 1999 Costello signed with Fox Family Music to compose for the Fox Family Channel and FoxKids Cartoons. He created custom music libraries for countless shows on both networks. He also composed numerous title themes including Total Access 24/7, a show featuring celebrities including, Christina Aguilera, Lance Bass, Mariah Carey, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, Frankie Muniz, NSync, Ashley Olsen, Mary-Kate Olsen, Pink (singer), Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. He also landed the scoring gig for the animated series NASCARRacers and contributed music to the Transformers: Robots In Disguise series.
