John Albert Bagonzi, Jr. (December 31, 1930 - February 13, 2014) was an author, college baseball head coach and professional baseball pitcher at various points in his life.

Early life

Bagonzi attended Woodsville High School in Woodsville, New Hampshire, before attending the University of New Hampshire, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in biology. He played baseball and basketball at the University of New Hampshire and ended up signing a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox. He had to fulfill military obligations, however, and instead fought in the Korean War.

Endeavors

Upon returning from his military duty, Bagonzi pitched briefly in the Red Sox minor league system in 1956, appearing in two games for the Class-D Corning Red Sox of the PONY League. An arm injury ended his career. Having already earned a Masters Degree from Indiana University, Bagonzi pursued a Ph.D., which he earned.

He returned to Woodsville, where he coached baseball and basketball teams for Woodsville High School from the 1950s to the 1980s. In 1984 and to begin 1985, he was the head coach for the Plymouth State University baseball team.

He later authored two books: The Inner Sanctum: Mastering the Act of Pitching and The Act of Pitching: A Tutorial for All Levels by a Master Technician-Detailing Every Aspect of Pitching and ran the a website, Pitching Professor.

Accolades

Bagonzi is a member of numerous halls of fame, including the National High School Hall of Fame, University of New Hampshire Athletic Hall of Fame, New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Hall of Fame, New England Basketball Hall of Fame, among others.
