John B. Aird (ship)

In 1983, Algoma Central named a lake freighter the John B. Aird, after the then current Lieutenant Governor of Ontario John Black Aird, who was a former chairman of the board of Algoma Central Railway. The vessel was built to seawaymax dimensions.

The vessel often carries coal and suffered $500,000 damage from a coal fire in her self-unloading machinery in 1990.

She was the last vessel built for Algoma Central, prior to the Algoma Equinox, lead ship of a class of eight that was launched in 2013.
