João Lusevikueno (born in Luanda January 6, 1973) is the Vice-President of the Angolan Football Association for Communication, Marketing and External Relations. A former prominent African football analyst for the Angolan state-owned radio station – Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), João is a reference in the Angolan football scene.

Life and career

Lusevikueno is the first of 8 siblings. His father, Mr Lusevikueno João, was a senior employee at the Ministry of Commerce having held high positions such as Director of Commercial Policy, Director of Multi lateral interchange, Executive Director of Common Fond for Basic Products in Amsterdam under the auspices of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and represented Angola in many Conferences, Workshops and missions around the globe.

Lusevikueno started school in Luanda at Santa Teresinha Primary school and by 1991 before the first democratic election in Angola was held he moved to Portugal to pursue his studies benefiting from the scholarship given by the Angolan Institute of Scholarship (INABE-Instituto Nacional de Bolsas de Estudo de Angola) at that time, spending one year in Leiria and then moving to the North of Portugal to study International Relations-Economic and Politics at Minho University in Braga. João currently works for an Oil Company based in Luanda and is also an African Football Analyst for Rádio Cinco (http://www.rna.ao/radio5/index.cgi) the sporting branch of the Angolan State Owned Radio RNA (http://www.rna.ao ), having TV appearances and also writes articles of opinion about economy, politics, social and football. He’s also a member of the NGO “Projecto Eu Acredito”.

Academic background

Degree in International Relations Economics and Politics – Minho University, Braga - Portugal. (1993–1998).

Professional Experience

After finishing his studies in Portugal he spent some times in Spain La Corunna during 4 months at Castro & Silva Assessores in Accounting and tax analysis in 1998. After that he moved to UK where he spent six months, working as security guard and sometimes washing dishes and doing cleaning in many buildings just to survive while he was learning English in London. By mid-1999 he decided to get back to Angola and after six months of unemployment he got a job at Halliburton International (American Oil Service Company) during two years, where he worked first as Material management Team leader and afterward in the Financial Department (Accounts Payable and Receivables) between 1999 and 2001. And then he moved on to BCI-Banco de Comércio e Indústria in Luanda at the department of International Banking and Trade Room as trader with the role of Analyzing the Angolan economy, Reporting the daily banking transaction (Excel sheet), management of the foreign currency in the correspondent banks, money transferring worldwide and permanent contacts with BCI’s bank correspondents. During his tenure at BCI he appeared several time in the local media for debates over the country’s banking system and the economy itself. At the same period he taught French at ISPRA (Private Institute Superior of Angola) for students of International Relations and Social Communications and Introduction to Economy in 2004, 2005 and 2006 for the same courses. He did also have several roles, since he worked as a translator (English - Portuguese – English) during the 7th African Conference on Oil and Gas Commercialization and Finance organized by Sonangol, ITE Group plc and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development – with the presence of Mr. Ricupero, the Secretary General of the organization at that time and various African Petroleum Ministers and Oil Companies representatives in 2003. In 2005 when for the first time the dream of Angola qualifying for the first ever football World Cup started to become a reality, João Lusevikueno along with a friend and former Portugal’s classmate Agostinho Van Duném, a senior employee at the Angolan presidency, decided to create a supportive movement called Projecto Eu Acredito which later become a NGO, with the aim of supporting the Palancas Negras and collected hundred thousand dollars donation which later were handed over to the player when Angola for the first time in his history qualified for 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. The “Eu Acredito Project” was able to take to Germany more than hundred poor Angolan to support the national side and gave them the chance for the first time in their lives of traveling abroad and gets to know Europe. After that, João become very associated to football, and by the end of 2006 he moved to the oil sector and started working for an oil company based in Luanda. During the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana he started to collaborate with Radio Cinco. João was in South Africa during the World Cup, covering the event for Rádio Cinco.

Sports career

João’s first sport was always football which he started to play officially in the 80’ when he was 15 at S.T. (Serviços de Tropas) and was at that time trained by coach Shibia at the Angolan youth Championship called Caçulinhas da Bola in Luanda. Suddenly João got very tall for his age and many friends including his coach Shibia advised him to leave football and start playing Basketball because of his size. He then moved on to ASA (Atletico Sport Aviação) in the basketball youth team and got the opportunity of playing against the likes of Ademar Vitoriano “Baduna”, Justino Vitoriano “Puna” which later become Angolan basketball stars and even represented Angola at the World Cup and Olympic Games. In 1991 at the age of 19 he moved to Portugal and played basketball in Leiria having participated in the local Youth Championship playing against teams such as Sporting Clube de Portugal, Barreirense and Academica, while he was studying at Domingos Sequeira Secondary School in Leiria. By 1993 he signed for Famalicense of Portugal’s North Zone Second Division and after a short spell he left due to limited number of foreign players imposed by the League at that time. He then pursued his basketball career playing for Minho University at the local Championship having travelled with the team around Europe for Students Championships. In 1996 He decided to stop playing basketball and went back on football until he finished his studies, playing as a striker.

Private life

João Lusevikueno has separated from his wife since July 2013 after almost 10 years marriage. He is the father of two, namely Denise and Jodeni.
