João Castelo Ribeiro Gonçalves (October 19, 1937 – December 11, 2016) was a Brazilian politician and lawyer. He served as Governor of Maranhão from March 15, 1979, to May 15, 1982.

In 1970, Castelo was elected federal deputy.
In 1974, Castelo was reelected federal deputy.
In 1978, Castelo was appointed governor of Maranhão by the president João Figueiredo.
In 1982, Castelo was elected senator from Maranhão. Endorsed Luís Rocha.
In 1986, Castelo ran the government of Maranhão, without success.
In 1990, Castelo ran the government of Maranhão for the PRN. Castelo was defeated by Edison Lobão.

In 1994, Castelo ran the senate, lost again to his opponent Edison Lobão. Endorsed Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Epitácio Cafeteira.
