Jinchao Xu is an American-Chinese mathematician, known for his work on multigrid methods and domain decomposition methods.
He studied at the Xiangtan University in the Hunan province, attended Peking University for graduate school, and obtained his Ph.D. at Cornell University from James H. Bramble. Currently, Xu works as a distinguished professor at the Pennsylvania State University and is an ISI highly cited researcher.

Xu is a recipient of the Humboldt Prize and a SIAM fellow. He was an invited speaker in International Congress of Mathematicians 2010, Hyderabad. In 2012 he became an inaugural fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
