Jewelpet is a fictional world surrounding a Sanrio/Sega Toys franchise. It is composed of three worlds: Jewel Land, Sweetsland and the Human World (or Rare Rare). Each coexists with each other in each series and focuses extensively on the Jewelpets and Sweetspets. Magic and alchemy are the main theme and is commonly used through the franchise's run. Terms involving magicians and mythical creatures are used in the series canon.

Contents

Jewel Land

Jewel Land (ジュエルランド, Jueru Rando) is the homeworld of the Jewelpets and the great magicians. Jewel Land itself is a continent that is part of the Jewel Planet located somewhere beyond the solar system, as evidenced by Kira Deco and Twinkle. It is a magical place where all Jewelpets study magic and are friends with their humans and magicians. It is entirely made of jewels and stardust, filled with colored trees, magical gemstone bushes and crystals. The geography is full of fields, mountains and towns. Magic and Alchemy is the main education in Jewel Land.

Depending on the series, Jewel Land has a few notable spots and places in the whole world. The notable place is the Magic Academy, where all Jewelpets (and humans in training) attend classes to study magic and alchemy; the Strawberry Cafe, a famous spot where Jewelpets get together for special occasions; and the Jewel Tower, on which the Four Great Witches of Jewel Land and Jewelina live.

Another interesting location in Jewel Land before Twinkle is its Orbital Rings, which are composed of jewels. In the Orbital Ring lies the forbidden weapon called the Battest, which was sealed in the Orbital Rings due to the powerful Dark Magic it contains and how it almost destroyed Jewel Land. Sunshine has an interesting spot called the Sunshine Academy where Jewelpets and humans study as well as the dormitory for them to stay with. Another place in Jewel Land before Kira Deco, called Jewel Town is where all Jewelpets live peacefully. Happiness introduced another area exclusive to the anime called the Jewel Academy as well, where humans attend school and the Jewelpet Cafe, where Ruby and her friends work to get Magic Gems.

Sweetsland

Sweetsland (スウィーツランド, Suwītsurando) is an island nation far from the seas of Jewel Land, somewhere in the Jewel Planet. It is themed with sweets and pastries: Everything is made of confectionery and pastries. The government is a monarchy, ruled by a king and queen. Sweetsland is also the home to the Sweetspets, animal creatures named after sweets.

Human World

The Human World (人間界, Ningenkai) is where all Human Beings or Rare Rare (レアレア, Rea rea) live. The Human World is Earth and is unaware of the existence of Jewel Land and Sweetsland. In each series, however, a few humans who have Jewelpets know of the existence of both worlds and the Jewelpets and the Sweetspets.

In the Twinkle anime, the human world is referred by the Jewel-Landians as the Rare Rare World. The term Rare Rare is Jewel-Landian for anything human-related, and everyone in Jewel Land referrer to the humans in this word and terms, especially the high-class magicians of the Magic Academy. The name Rare Rare Drops comes from this term.

Jewel Flash

Jewel Flash (ジュエルフラッシュ, Jueru furasshu) is a special magic spell that is cast by a Jewelpet using its respective Jewel Eye. Each Jewelpet has their own version of Jewel Flash and has their own attributes and strengths, depending on which Jewel they represents. The Jewelpets use this magic to use special spells or synchronize with their human partners, as seen in Twinkle. From Sunshine onwards, the Jewelpets must use their Jewel Pods to use this magic.

A variation of the Jewel Flash, called Sweets Flash (スウィーツフラッシュ, Suwītsu furasshu) exists. This is mainly used by the Sweetspets for casting magic but the execution is different. As seen in Kira Deco, for example, Sakuran must use her Jewel Necklace to cast it.

Dark Magic

Dark Magic (ダーク魔法, Dāku mahō) is what Diana, Dian and Coal practice. For Diana, it lowers the person's fortune and determination for the Jewelpet in its Jewel Form to come out, while Dian's used to manipulate other Jewelpets to do his bidding. This is a forbidden type of magic that no Jewelpet practices in Jewel Land, as it causes nothing but disaster and despair to whoever uses it. However, for Coal, he uses dark magic to summon dark clouds that can be used to manipulate people or for offensive purposes.

In Sunshine, the Dark Magic is a living entity. Its goal is to plunge Jewel Land into darkness and eternal winter. This is shown in its several attempts to freeze the world and possess someone who is pure, as shown in Episode 47 where Sapphie is possessed by the Dark Magic and later by Jewelina.

Classes

In the first season of Jewelpet, each of the representing characters was assigned to magical classes, in which having their magic cast successfully varies. They are divided into four classes.

Acrylic Class (アクリル級, Akuriru-kyū)

Jewelpets who were in this class had a 0–50% chance that their magic would be successful when cast. This is sometimes considered a beginning class for some Jewelpets. One Jewelpet goes to this class.

Glass Class (グラス級, Gurasu-kyū)

Jewelpets who were in this class had a 50% chance that their magic would be successful. This is sometimes considered an intermediate class for some Jewelpets. Most of the Jewelpets had this class of magic.

Crystal Class (クリスタル級, Kurisutaru-kyū)

Jewelpets who were in this class had a 100% chance that their magic would be successful. This is sometimes considered an advanced class for some Jewelpets and sometimes been rumored that their magic was far superior than the Acrylic Class.

Super Crystal Class (スーパークリスタル級, Sūpā Kurisutaru-kyū)

This class is similar to Crystal Class but to an extent that someone can summon the legendary Jewelpet Opal. Only one Jewelpet has this class of magic.

Attributes

A Jewelpet's magic attribute is divided into four. Each of them corresponds to each Jewelpet's Jewel Eyes and there is a setting to which magic with different characteristics can be practiced respectively. This follows the character of each attribute.

Red attribute Magical Red (赤属性:マジカルレッド, Aka zokusei: Majikaru reddo)

Magic that manipulates fire can be practiced in this category. Jewelpets who have red, pink, brown, orange or yellow Jewel Eyes have this kind of ability. Ruby and Garnet's magic is an example of it.

Green attribute Magical Green (緑属性:マジカルグリーン, Midori zokusei: Majikaru gurīn)

Magic that manipulates plants and transformation can be practiced. Jewelpets who have green or teal Jewel Eyes have this kind of ability. Peridot and Milky's magic goes to this list.

Blue attribute Magical Blue (青属性:マジカルブルー, Ao zokusei: Majikaru burū)

Magic that freely manipulates water and objects can be practiced. Jewelpets who have blue or purple Jewel Eyes have this kind of ability. Sapphie and Luna's magic are examples of the Magical Blue attribute.

Black attribute Magical Black (黒属性:マジカルブラック, Kuro zokusei: Majikaru burakku)

Fortune-telling and mysterious magic can be practiced. Jewelpets who have black or silver Jewel Eyes have this kind of ability. King and Labra's magic goes with this list.

Spells

Magical Spells and Incantations are one of the key points in the Anime Series. several magical words and terms were created for the characters for them to cast magic. Each of the magicians or Jewelpets must recite certain magical words to do some magic and all must master these in order to become a high class mage.

Magical items

Jewel Pocketbook (ジュエル手帳, Jueru Techō)

The Jewel Pocketbook is a pink book-like item used to cast spells and identify the Jewelpets that Rinko and the gang encounter. The pocketbook can also detect dark magic close by. In the earlier episodes, it was only used to awaken Jewelpets from their Jewel Charm state by saying the magical word; the book casts a special spell to awaken them. There are four buttons in the Jewel Notebook when opened and each combination of buttons activates a feature or magic. Diana possesses a darker version of the Jewel Pocketbook.

Jewel Charm (ジュエルチャーム, Jueru Chāmu)

A Jewel Charm is a special jewel from which the Jewelpets who were born with. Each Jewelpet has its own Jewel Charm and is considered their "sleeping" state after the magicians cast a special spell on them. The Jewelpets stay on that form until they are awakened by either Rinko or Diana.

In the second series, the Jewel Charm is considered a symbol of a Jewelpet's bond with its human partner and is used as a magical device by the people chosen by their Jewelpet partners. The caster needs to recite magical phrases to activate its magic, while it also changes the caster's costume in the process to increase its magical potential. In the third series, the Jewel Charm is where all the Jewelpets originally came and while summoning magic. However, after the magic is cast, the Jewelpet must remain on its Jewel Charm form to recharge its strength.

Jewel Stick (ジュエルステッキ, Jueru Sutīkku)

The Jewel Stick is a magic wand and a rumored legendary weapon of Jewel Land that comes out only once every 1000 years when the Jewel Pocketbook and the Dark Jewel Pocketbook were combined. It was once used by a legendary magician who restored Jewel Land torn by war using its magic. Because of its supreme power, misusing it causes disasters if it falls into the hands of the wrong person. The stick chooses Rinko as its new user after it was unveiled to save everyone from a volcanic eruption by summoning Opal, the legendary Jewelpet.

Ruby, Garnet and Sappie possessed the Jewel Stick — only a smaller version with colored ribbons to distinguish which stick belongs to the three main pets. When Rinko is using the Jewel Stick, she recites magical words to cast magic or to awaken a Jewelpet from their Jewel Charm state. Ruby, Garnet and Sapphie can use the Jewel Stick to do magic or summon a Jewelpet in Jewel Land. This can only be done when Ruby, Garnet and Sapphy are together. Three forms of the Jewel Stick exist: one by Rinko, the ones wielded by Ruby, Garnet and Sapphie (with color-coded ribbons) and another by Dian.

It can freeze time, giving the Jewelpet and its human partner a good time in Jewel Land until they return to Earth. Several features of the Jewel Pot can be activated by touching it like a touch-screen phone, which came handy on browsing spells, using a radar to find its human partner or another Jewelpet and storing magical items like the Rare Rare Drops and the Ble Ble Drops.

In Jewelpet Sunshine, the Jewel Pod retains its usefulness as a magical item for the students of Sunshine Academy, even for Jewelpets. The Jewel Pod is used as a normal smartphone as well as casting magic. The Jewel Pod can become its upgraded form, called the Jewel Pod Crystal (ジュエルポッド クリスタル, Jueru Poddo Kurisutaru), which allows the Jewelpets to do powerful magic.

In Kira Deco, another incarnation of the Jewel Pod called Jewel Pod Diamond (ジュエルポッドダイアモンド, Jueru Poddo Daiamondo) appeared. The new version is used by all Jewelpets in Jewel Land and each of them is decorated with jewels and other decorations, depending on the user. It allows the user to use magic as well. The Kira Deco 5 obtained their own version of the Jewel Pod Diamond, which now allows them to contact the Jewelpets and identify the Deco Stones. The students in Happiness uses this incarnation of the Jewel Pod.

In Happiness, the Jewelpets themselves use a new variant of the Jewel Pod called Jewel Pod Diamond Premium (ジュエルポッドダイアモンドプレミアム, Jueru Poddo Daiamondo Puremiamu), which is specially customized for each pet. Like the others, it can function as a cellphone and used to cast magic spells. Also in the series, a variant called the Jewel Music Pod (ジュエルミュージックポッド, Jueru Myūjikku Poddo) exists.
