Early life and career

Hu was born in Guangdong, China to a Chinese father and German mother. After her father's death, she moved to Germany until finish high school. Her Eurasian looks appealed to the Chinese community and she became an instant hit. She was a popular movie actress and her films were translated into Mandarin Chinese. Bruce Lee's martial arts caused Shaw management to focus on action filled movies.

She had made her debut in the film Till the End of Time (何日君再來) (1966) and continued acting until her retirement at the age of 30.

Being of European descent, she was deemed "too unfit for Kung Fu movies" so she retired in the mid 1970s. She and her husband migrated to Los Angeles, California shortly thereafter, where she took up work as a beautician manager and her husband ended up in the insurance business.
