Storey grew up in Texas and eastern Oklahoma. His parents were in the construction and airline industries.
Career
Before becoming the CEO of Level 3 Communications, Inc., Storey was the President and COO of Level 3 from December 2008 until April 11, 2013. Prior to joining Level 3, he was the President-Leucadia Telecommunications Group of Leucadia National Corporation from December 2005 until May 2008. Starting in October 2002, he was President and CEO of WilTel Communications Group, LLC until it was sold to Level 3 in December 2005. From 2002 until December of 2005, Storey was the CEO and President of WilTel Communications Group Inc. He was at WilTel Communications Group from 1999 until December 2005. From 1994 until 1999, he was the Vice President of Commercial Services of Cox Communications.
Education
Storey has a Master's degree in Telecommunications Systems from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics and mathematics from Northeastern State University.
Family life
Storey owns a ranch in Oklahoma where he enjoys driving bulldozers, building ponds and fences and working cows. He is married and has six children.
