Jeffrey Scott Crane, BA, MBA, MPA, Ph.D., known as "Jeff", (May 24, 1968–Present) is currently the Director of Forensics and Data Acquisition for Merrill Corporation, headquartered in St. Paul, MN. He provides information management consulting services to Fortune 500 companies and law firms in areas of data acquisition, preservation, retention, and forensics. Crane is vastly experienced in computer and mobile forensics. He has certifications and has received forensics training on a wide array of platforms and technologies. He was previously the managing partner of SIMPEX Inc, a Strategic International Management Company located in Miami, Florida.

Academics

Crane earned a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Appalachian State University in 1995. Entering graduate school at Troy State University in Bethesda, Maryland, graduating with a Master in Public Administration- Healthcare Administration in 1997. Crane then attended the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida, and was awarded a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2003, focused on Healthcare Administration and Management Information Systems (MIS), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Public Health in 2005. His dissertation was titled: "Assessment of Community Healthcare Providers’ Ability and Willingness to Respond to a Bioterrorism Attack”. He also completed graduate certificates in Disaster Management, Health Care Management, and Management Information Systems.

Crane has held academic appointments at the University of Miami, College of Medicine (2006–2011), University of Florida, College of Pharmacy (1998-2001), University of South Florida, College of Public Health (2007-2010), and Western Carolina University (2004–2011), and a Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh, Center for National Preparedness.

Professional

In his career, Dr. Crane has: traveled in over 30 countries and served with the US Army 11th Special Forces Group as an engineer, and in the US Navy as a Corpsman; held the Associate Hospital Administrator position at Jackson Health System, Miami, Florida, overseeing the billion dollar corporation and the nation’s busiest hospital’s (based on number of admissions to a single facility) emergency operations and pandemic influenza preparedness activities; worked as a bioterrorism coordinator for the State of Florida; served as a subject matter expert on mass casualty incidents for the cruise industry and local governments, security expert for State Department, and an Expert Advisor on healthcare management issues to the U.S. Surgeon General and the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Florida Secretary of Health and state senators, and local government officials. He has responded to numerous hurricanes and man-made disaster.

From June 2006 to August 2009, Dr. Crane was the Executive Director of the Congressman John P. Murtha Institute for Homeland Security at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in Pennsylvania. The IUP is the largest member university of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Since beginning his tenure at IUP, Crane has built a university-wide educational and research institute that excels in disaster management, homeland security, information assurance and public health preparedness, securing grants from the Department of Defense, and federal/state agencies.
