Playing career

Jean Bourbeau played his junior career in Grande Prairie, Alberta (2001-2004) with the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, winning the league championship in 2004. Bourbeau attended St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick (2004-2008). He played for the St. Thomas Tommies in the Atlantic University Sport division of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport hockey league.

Undrafted by the NHL, Bourbeau played his first three professional seasons (2008–11) with the Odessa Jackalopes of the Central Hockey League and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

During his fourth professional season, (2011-12 season) Bourbeau served as an assistant captain with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL and played one game with the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL.

In 2012-13, Bourbeau earned a six-game professional try out (PTO) with the Binghamton Senators of the AHL. He was not successful in sticking with the team, so returned to the Jackals where he played the next two seasons and served as the team captain.

Following the end of the 2013–14 season, Bourbeau moved on from the Jackals, agreeing to a one-year contract with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL on August 7, 2014.
