Biography
Jay Deshmukh was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. He attended Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD), Mumbai. Later he enrolled at College of Physicians and Surgeons, and National Board of Medical Examiners post his college days in Medical field. At present he is Chief consultant and surgeon at Sunflower Hospital, and visiting consultant in Orange City Hospitals & Research Center and Arneja Heart Institute Nagpur.
Early career
He started Sunflower Hospital which is a unit of Dr Jay Deshmukh Research Institute, Nagpur in year 1971 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India which was a small nucleus clinic in its initial years. Over the time Dr Deshmukh helped evolve Sunflower Hospital what it is today in the form of a multi-speciality research and diagnostic center.
Controversies
in the year 2014, Dr Deshmukh was criticized for declaring a living constable dead who later woke up just before his funeral. It was later revealed by the Sun Flower Hospital that the news was altered by the patient’s family. The patient was chronically ill and diagnosed with advanced cancer. The staff especially mentioned that no death certificate was issued in the name of said patient and the discharge of the patient was forced by family members of the said patient.
